There are many Bible verses associated with Christmas. One that does not normally come to mind at this time is: Isaiah 40:31

โ€œBut those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.โ€

Christmas is a season of hope

At the time of this prophecy, Godโ€™s people were in a bad way. They had disobeyed God and been taken into exile by the Babylonians. Eventually, the Babylonian exile ended. However, Godโ€™s chosen people continued to live under the rule of other nations. Times were tough.

When the LORD did arrive in Jesus, the Jews were still under foreign rule. At that time, many were surprised when Jesusโ€™s ministry did not include overthrowing the Roman rule. ย Jesus had bigger things in mind. ย His focus was not on victory over the Romans or some other foreign nation, ย but victory over sin and death.

Jesus suffered the ultimate exile when he was separated from the Father on the cross. In doing so, we are freed from the exile of our sin and death.

We celebrate this good news at Christmas. There is great hope and anticipation of Christโ€™s return. He will come again on the Last Day. Christ will make everything right.

Times are tough today. Still, there is hope in the season of Christmas. Christ came here once already for us. He will return, and that gives us hope no matter what trials we encounter.
