User Group Meetings

User Group Meetings

Save the date!

We have several user group meetings coming up. The dates and locations are as follows:

  • Sept 12 at Russell County School Board, VA
  • Sept 13 at Carroll County School Board, VA
  • Oct 11 at Town of Schroon, NY
  • Oct 12 at Town of Marbletown, NY

These meetings are beneficial for both you as the user and us as the software provider. You get to learn better ways to solve problems and accomplish tasks, discover new features, and discuss issues you may have. We get to know you better, listen to your ideas, and learn new ways to improve our software. A successful user group meeting is one in which everyone can walk away knowing something they didn’t when they came in.

Current users should have received an invitation to the meeting in your area. If you have not received an email but would like to attend, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Fourth of July Office Hours

Fourth of July Office Hours

RDA 4th of July flag

RDA will be closed Monday, July 3rd, and Tuesday, July 4th, in celebration of Independence Day. We will resume normal business hours Wednesday, July 5th. We wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July Holiday!

Independence Day marks the Colonies’ adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This day, the 13 colonies declared independence from Great Britain and its king. We thought it would be appropriate to share some fun facts about this historic day. We are already familiar with the fireworks, parades, barbecue, and festivities like picnics, fairs, concerts, and parties that take place on this day, but there are some things many people don’t know about the Fourth.

1. Thomas Jefferson wrote most of the Declaration of Independence on a “laptop,” a small flat writing platform that fit on the writer’s lap.

2. Hardly anyone actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Most did so nearly a month later on August 2, 1776. One who did sign on July 4th was John Hancock, hence the expression “put your John Hancock on this…” to refer to someone’s signing a document.

3. While only one US president, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4th, several died on the Fourth of July: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe.

4. The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was 45 years old, with Thomas Lynch, Jr. of South Carolina being the youngest at 27 years old and Ben Franklin of Pennsylvania being the oldest at 70 years old.

5. The original American flag had 13 stars in a circle, to symbolize the “equality” of the thirteen original colonies.

6. On July 4th, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped thirteen times in honor of the original thirteen colonies. The theory is -the last big crack happened on Washington’s Birthday. The Liberty Bell cracked up, literally, in February 1846, when it was rung on the holiday and then stopped ringing because of damage from a major crack.

Galatians 5:13-14 (ESV)
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Fiscal Year End

Fiscal Year End

fiscal year end recommendations

For those of you on a July-June fiscal year, fiscal year end is fast approaching. We are thrilled to offer you software in which each year (as well as each month and quarter) stands on its own because that means you won’t have a formal closing or opening of these periods. There are, of course, procedures you should follow at the change of a fiscal year. Rest assured that we have you covered! Please click the links in this post to access our fiscal-year-end-related recommendations and tools.

  • Our Fiscal Year End Procedures document will take you through the steps required as well as suggestions to ensure a smooth fiscal year end and a clean start to your new year.
  • If you have the Leave Management module, then in a few short weeks, you will be moving your employees’ leave balances to the new fiscal year. We want to make that task easier, and also allow your Leave processing to be more streamlined in the upcoming fiscal year and beyond. With that goal and timing in mind, we want to get the word out about something that you may not realize is a feature in our software, Leave TablesLeave Tables must be set up  BEFORE you use the Move Leave Balances process.  This may be a good time to review your Leave IDs and determine which of the same type may be able to be combined into one and set up a table that would determine employees’ earnings based on their years of employment. Once tables have been set up, you can use the Move Leave Balance process to move balances into the new year, and at the same time, move them into the unified Leave ID.
  • We created a Year End Sub-Menu, under Maintenance, in order to group together the processes and reports that are most commonly used at fiscal year end in regard to Leave Management.  We created a comprehensive guide of the year-end sub-menu. This guide contains additional links to wikis that provide further details on each individual process and report under Year End, including the Move Leave Balance process.
  • We also have guidance on running Contract Payrolls in June. We recommend that you read through this documentation so that you understand all your options regarding July and August payrolls.

It is our hope that you find value in these recommendations and instructions. If you have questions regarding fiscal year end, please submit a cyber support request.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Memorial day RDA

For many, Memorial Day is a long weekend and a BBQ with friends or the first trip to the lake. However, as we enjoy the freedoms we’ve been blessed with in this country, let’s not forget about the men and women (and their families) who gave their lives for that freedom. So in remembrance of those soldiers, our office will be closed on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. We will resume regular hours on Tuesday, May 30th.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
